Mind and Music over Matter

Published on

Have you ever dreamed of being famous on stage with overwhelming fans, an enormous following, a beloved icon, and influential to the youngsters?  Nevertheless, all gatherings are forced to close down by the COVID-19 pandemic. There are alternative ways to interact with the audience virtually. Yet, the music industry has started to change.

To answer these questions, I will explain them equally:

  • Yes, music creators have dreams, amidst the pandemic. It is also a fortunate opportunity to spend time on having creative aspects.
  • No, But the question is: how long will they keep upon five to ten years until the virus has stopped spreading? Will, they ever quit music after the pandemic?

Musicians have created their “quarantine routine”, depending on various situations at home. For instance, if they are recording music for a film, they will go to a park and enjoy the weather while listening to the music of different genres.

[If they need relaxation and creativity, then they prefer going to coffee shops with headphones on and try zen yoga.]

Musicians need to have their quarantine routine because this can affect their mindset about their creative process as well as performance quality in general. They are also able to edit better because this routine helps them get out of one fixed mindset when it comes to work since different environments give them new perspectives every time. Not all “successful” musicians and creators would do so because of dealing with mental health. They are faced with struggles in rental pay, insurance, and emergency funds.

There is a famous saying that would apply to surround us, "forgive and forget". There are two types of mindset that they need to know and how to function when they are in quarantine: “fixed” and “growth mindset”. A fixed mindset is a type when people have a closed mind and don’t want to try new things. It’s like they are set that they could not change or improve; they will defend their work even if it has flaws. Perfectionists would be a good example for this case since it seems that no amount of effort can make them satisfied.

A growth mindset is an exact opposite; people believe there are ways to make themselves better, and they try everything until the best outcome comes out. This can also be called a flexible mindset since people do not need to worry about their work anymore and just let go, no matter what happens.

At the end of quarantine, event gatherings will be going back to normal, as long as people should constantly aware of social distancing. Some musicians are pursuing music after they learn in virtual lessons and small gatherings. They are still growing as musicians daily, but this is the most important thing they could do to progress in their musical careers.
